Pecking BirdsWhen the crank is turned (rotated), the birds appear to be pecking the ground. This type of motion is called oscillating motion.
The the birds legs are joined together by a wire which acts as a fixed pivot round which the body moves.
The input motion from the crank is transmitted to the birds through a linkage.
Bees
This model has three bees attached to a platform that rotates freely round a central pole. As the bees are rotated, the platform is forced to rise as the red strings twist and tighten themselves around the pole
The bees are then released and the weight of the platform then makes the strings unwind, lowering the platform and starting the process all over again
Ocean MotionThis model has a series of waves resting on top of circular cams. See cams for more information. The waves act as cam followers and when the crank is turned they move up and down and from side-to-side. The wave movement is created by each cam being slightly offset from the next one. v
